The Hot Mamas Drop New Single “Have a Good Time” with Guardian Revival’s Encore Program

Guardian Revival is proud to celebrate the release of “Have a Good Time,” a bold new single from The Hot Mamas, an eclectic collective of femme multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters whose music is as joyful and unapologetic as it is skilled.

Released on Guardian Revival Records, the single was produced, recorded, and released with support from Encore, Guardian Revival’s music program, as part of its Tracks initiative — designed to help Guardians bring original music into the world with free professional resources and creative freedom.

The Hot Mamas: A Band That Defies Description

Trying to define The Hot Mamas is a little like trying to hold onto glitter in a tornadoImpossible.

The band is a genre-blurring force to be reckoned with. Their music moves effortlessly from jazzy pop to funky punk, from soulful blues to murder ballads, and even into those good old “drinking-when-you’re-sad” country tunes.

Grit, humor, tight harmonies, and a healthy dose of sass fuel their sound, creating one-of-a-kind performances that feel both playful and deeply meaningful.

The Hot Mamas are quirky without being gimmicky, fun without being frivolous, and sincere in every note they play, bringing audiences along for madcap musical adventures that never take themselves too seriously, but somehow always manage to hit home.

“Have a Good Time”: Joy as an Act of Independence

“Have a Good Time” captures everything that makes up The Hot Mamas: fearless creativity, communal energy, and an unapologetic expression of joy.

The song leans into playful experimentation, layering unexpected instruments and lively harmonies into an attitude-packed anthem about independence and self-love.

Have A Good Time’ was born from a wild, joyful studio session — accordion, banjo, jug bass, washboard, spoons, whizzer whistle, wooden kazoo, fiddle, and playful harmonies fueling a sassy, empowered anthem about independence and loving oneself. We sang and danced together, capturing our bold, raucous energy.

Meet the Guardian Behind the Music: Mallory McKendry

At the heart of The Hot Mamas is Mallory McKendry, a lifelong professional performer and Guardian in the Encore program. Her musical path has been anything but linear.

After briefly studying opera in college, Mallory left school to tour with a children’s theater company, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a military vocalist. During her service, she fronted big bands, rock bands, and jazz ensembles, performing around the world as an international ambassador — while continuing to write and perform original music whenever possible.

That balance between structure and creativity proved formativethe discipline, training, and performance experience Mallory gained during her military career now powers The Hot Mamas, an all-original female collective she describes as the realization of everything she’s been working toward.

Today, Mallory says she finally feels she’s stepping fully into her artistic potential — and “Have a Good Time” marks a powerful moment in that journey.

Supported by Encore’s Tracks Program

Guardian Revival’s Encore program exists to support Guardians in reclaiming, sustaining, and advancing their creative lives.

Through the Tracks program, artists receive production support, professional collaboration, and guidance to record and release original music with intention and care.

“Have a Good Time” was brought to life with the support of an exceptional creative team, including:

  • Steve Sutton, studio owner and engineer in Staunton, VA

  • Luc Aussavis & David Stagno, Encore’s mixing and mastering team

Together, they helped translate The Hot Mamas’ vibrant, in-the-room energy into a recording that feels as bold and joyful as the band itself.
