“Another Gift” Jordan Dasher debut Album Review

A slow burn that lingers on long after the last note lands

Guardian Revivalis proud to release a new album on Guardian Revival Records, produced and recorded with support from Encore, Guardian Revival’s music program. Encore’s Tracks initiative helps guardians bring original music into the world with professional resources and creative freedom — all at no cost to them.

Another Gift is the debut album of South Carolina native and guardian, Jordan Dasher. The album is a collection of six soulful songs that will have listeners immersed in one man’s world as he wrestles with his past, present, and future.

We’re honored to share his music with you and hope you will enjoy his songs & his story.

On his debut album, Another Gift, South Carolina native and veteran Jordan Dasher somehow blends the ordinary of the everyday with the intensity of a combat veteran processing his lived experiences, painting a portrait of what it means to straddle the line between two different worlds.

With six songs clocking in at just over 30 minutes, the album, produced by Guardian Revival as part of its Encore program, is a lean but impactful listen.

Another Gift doesn’t just describe Dasher’s experiences — it drops listeners right into the passenger seat as he drives down a long stretch of a South Carolina road, musing about life, love, and the almost-impossible-to-understand experiences of a combat veteran.

Musically, Another Gift burns out of the speakers with a distinctly acoustic folk sound that’s immediately conversational and accessible. Subtle production touches like backing vocals, slow-pick solos, ambient sounds, and background audio from home videos keep the songs from mirroring each other too closely, while the mix places Dasher’s distinct voice and earnest lyrics front and center, keeping the listener immersed in the story.

Dasher opens the album with Collide, a song that strums along with the all-too-familiar feeling of longing for someone, but being unable to act on it, never quite finding the right words. The simplicity of the song keeps it grounded and relatable, while the soft backing vocals (provided by Dasher’s daughter) add an extra layer of softness.

With the sweetness of the first track still echoing in the background, Dasher makes a turn into heavier territory that carries through the middle of the album.

Death and a Thief explores the push and pull of Dasher’s inner world, telling the listener, “Well, here I am for you to see…” leaving a vulnerable opening for understanding, while the twangy guitar patterns of Heaven’s Road evoke dusty drives down country roads instantly transformed into an inferno as Dasher dolefully declares “I was chained to a lake of fire”, pulling the listener straight into his private reckoning.

Rounding out the center is I Don’t Know Your Pain, which opens on indistinct shouting and distant gunfire, with soft strumming slowly bleeding into the mix until you realize you’ve been pulled inside the scene. By the time Dasher sings, “I don’t know your pain, I don’t know the war you raged, but I have earned my place in the sand,” the listener is already fully immersed in his world, watching him reach for connection without pretending to fully understand someone else’s scars.

Encore Executive Director Matt Sorena explained how moving it was to be in the studio recording this specific song with Dasher:

The track uses audio from old videos that Jordan shot on a digital camera during his deployment — footage he hadn’t watched in more than ten years. We pulled the audio and laid it over the song. So, the gunshots, shouts, and hollers you hear are Jordan and his group in actual combat. Hearing it come together in the studio had us in tears, and it really drives home what we do and why we do it.”

Leading into the tail end of the album, Old Saloon follows a man coming home carrying a tangle of feelings, joyful and otherwise, and threads them into a quiet hope that someone might walk back through the door with him.

The final track, Why Do We Throw, plays like a meditation on guilt, shame, and the possibility of redemption, with Dasher somberly begging for a humility that doesn’t come easy and rarely arrives on our own terms. The soft strums of the song slowly build into a blazing guitar solo that brands the entire album into the listener’s mind, leaving them to contemplate what they’ve been holding onto and what it might look like to finally let some of it go.

Taken as the sum of its parts, Another Gift feels less like the debut album of a new artist and more like a document of someone quietly doing the work of reckoning with the past, with faith, with the people who made it home and the ones who didn’t. It’s an album that sits with hard memories without turning them into a spectacle, trusting that listeners will meet it halfway.

For guardians (military, veterans, and first responders), it also shows what can happen when there’s a steady place to keep making music. If this record resonates with you, spend some time with it, share it with someone who might need it, and take a look at what’s we offer for guardians & their family members here at Guardian Revival.

Supported by Encore’s Tracks Program

Another Gift was brought to life with the support of an exceptional creative team, including:

  • Matthew Sorena, Producer and studio musician

  • Luc Aussavis, Engineer and studio musician

  • David Stagno, Mixing and mastering

Guardian Revival’s Encore program exists to support guardians in reclaiming, sustaining, and advancing their creative lives. We offer free opportunities for guardians to learn, write, play, record, and share songs of their own — whether that’s at a weekly Jam, in one‑on‑one Lessons, or through the Tracks offering that helped bring Another Gift to life.

The Tracks program provides artists with production support, professional collaboration, and guidance to record and release original music with intention and care. The music industry can be both expensive and difficult to navigate, so the guidance and assistance from Guardian Revival Records for military, veterans, and first responders to access professional resources and support at no cost through the entire process is extremely valuable.
