Silver Mine to Bear Mountain
Join one of our Epic Training Hikes, designed to help you prepare for long-distance backpacking trips (like our 100-Mile Wilderness).
Our Epic Training Hikes are intended to train for long-distance backpacking trips, like one of our high or epic adventures, or you can join them to complete a personal training goal. They will generally be day hikes covering 10 or more miles on various terrains.
This Epic Hike will have us traveling from Harriman State Park to Bear Mountain State Park along the Appalachian Trail.
We'll cover 9.92 miles with a total elevation gain of 2,198 feet, summiting Black Mountain and Bear Mountain along the way, with stellar views of the area!
WHEN: Sunday, August 13 @ 8 AM
WHERE: Silver Mine Parking Area, Seven Lakes Drive, Tomkins Cove, NY 10986
DIFFICULTY: 🟥 Red (strenuous)
Red hikes are more difficult and are recommended for experienced hikers or those who are physically fit. These can be fast-paced scrambles up a mountainside, a long 10+ mile hike, or a 4-6 mile hike on a difficult trail. While there is a lot of variety in the type of activity, these hikes will always be more tiring than the others and might involve technical skill.
DISTANCE: 9.92 miles
DURATION: 4 - 6 hours
