Upper Esopus Fire Tower

Join our outdoor leaders, Bill and Todd, on the first of our Catskills Fire Tower Series hikes to the Upper Esopus fire tower.

Originally located in Venice, Florida, the Upper Esopus fire tower is the most recent addition to the collection of Catskills fire towers, rebuilt on the grounds of the Catskills Visitor Center in 2019. This is the easiest of all the Catskills Fire Tower hikes, as you'll get to enjoy a level, relatively flat walk along the Catskill Interpretive Loop trail -- learning about the history of the Catskills along the way!

Initiated in 2019 and organized by the DEC, the Catskills Fire Tower Challenge rewards hikers for visiting all six of the Catskill fire towers in one calendar year. Complete the challenge with us and get the commemorative patch! Check out the challenge rules here.
