Training: Mental Health Understanding for Peer Support
Learn the skills to recognize and assist a peer, helping promote recovery and resilience.
Mental Health Understanding for Peer Support is a course designed to help participants develop a clear and practical understanding of mental health as it relates to effective peer support. The course explores common mental health conditions and symptoms as well as recovery principles through the lens of lived experience and non-clinical support.
Participants will learn how to recognize signs of distress, respond appropriately within their role, and connect individuals to professional and community resources when needed. Anchored in best practices, this course emphasizes empathy, boundaries, and the importance of informed peer relationships in promoting recovery and resilience among veterans and peers alike.

About Your Instructor
Brian Flynn, LCSW, is the Training and Education Specialist at Guardian Revival. He is a clinical social worker with nearly 25 years of teaching and clinical experience working with law enforcement and other first responders. He is a university lecturer and holds a certification in critical incident stress management.

Participants in our courses learn practical tools for peer support, crisis response, resilience, and mental wellness. Our goal is simple: strengthen peer support networks so guardians can care for one another with knowledge, compassion, and confidence.
We offer courses online as well as in-person in Beacon, NY.
